tech internships for law students

an update to our 2020 programme

In the face of recent events, we have decided to suspend the techlaw programme for 2020 as a precautionary measure to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 (novel coronavirus).

We’re disappointed that we can’t run our programme as expected this year but we are committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of our participants during this time. We look forward to re-starting the programme at a future date and giving Auckland law students the opportunity to get stuck into the many exciting opportunities the tech sector can offer them.

Stay well,

what is it?

The techlaw programme offers Auckland University law students (in their final or penultimate year) the chance to get real-world experience in the high growth tech sector.

The programme introduces law students interested in technology and entrepreneurship to tech companies.  We first ran this programme in 2018 and participating companies and law students said they benefited immensely from the programme.

For 2020, we plan to select 7 students for the programme.  Each student will be paid to provide up to 100 hours of basic legal work for a tech company, or other entity active in the tech sector, over the course of the academic year.  Students will gain practical experience by providing legal assistance to participating companies.  Students will work at the company’s premises, at times to be agreed between the student and the company.

Kindrik Partners, and others within our network, will provide up-front training before students get started.  We will also assign a buddy to assist each student during the programme, including supervising the student’s work (where required).  Students and buddies will also participate in a Slack channel to assist information sharing and problem solving.

which companies are involved?

We are thrilled with the level of interest from tech companies wanting to participate in the programme this year. The participating companies include the likes of:
